In 2018, the Forum for International Tourism and the Environment will focus on cultural heritage and invites students to participate in a video-essay competition: students are invited to submit original videos in English, reflecting on the topic below.
The topic challenges students to explore the European Commission statement concerning cultural heritage:
“Cultural heritage allows us to understand the past and to look to our future. (…)
What do you think of this statement? Find an example of cultural heritage to illustrate your opinion.
Students, in order to participate you must:
The top students of the online competition will be invited, expenses paid, to the June 21-22, 2018 conference in Bali and will present a live pitch of their points of view and arguments in front of an audience.
These FITE semifinalists will receive a session of speech and leadership training by a team of debate and tourism specialists from the George Washington University, partners of the Superior Institute of Tourism, Nusa Dua, Bali.
The best Indonesian students, selected on the merit of their participation in the competition and the leadership they show during the conference, will be awarded study tours to France.
All of the videos produced for the competition will be shared via social media and the FITE website. (The videos submitted for the last FITE video competition received over 60,000 views)
Read the topic (above) for the competition carefully. In your video, you should identify at least one example of cultural heritage and discuss how this example illustrates or supports your opinion regarding at least one element of the topic.
For example, if you identify an example of cultural heritage that you believe is relevant to the third element of the European Commission statement quoted in the topic, "important for our relations with the rest of the world", you might create a video showing this example and explaining or proving how it is important to Indonesian relations with the international community.
Remember that there is no single definition of cultural heritage; it can be a monument or an object (tangible), it can be a practice or a custom (intangible); consult our page on cultural heritage to learn more.
Give us your opinion. We want to hear your voice and personal thoughts.
You are strongly encouraged to create original content (photos and video illustrating your example, video-interviews with community members, etc.).
